Rugged by Vanessa Vale

PACK RULE #8: NEVER LIE TO YOUR MATE.

I broke that rule the day I showed up on her doorstep.
I’m sworn to protect my kind from any kind of threat.

As a human, she thought I was there on friendly business.
Didn’t know I meant to take down her shifter boss.
I didn’t know she’d flip my world upside down.

One whiff of her scent, and I was lost. No–found.
I couldn’t leave without her. So, I spent the night. Made her fall for me.

But she doesn’t know what I am. What I’ve done.
I’m not just a ranch hand–I’m a shifter enforcer.
The clock is ticking before I have to finish the job.

I must win my mate’s heart and claim her before the lies catch up to me. Before she finds out what I am and what I have done.
Or what I will do to keep her safe.
And mine.

Even though Emma and Lyssa are twins, they couldn’t be more different. While Emma is more reserved and cautious, Lyssa is outgoing and free spirited. When an opportunity for a free accommodation and an easy job comes her way, she does not hesitate to take it. The only catch is, she is going to have to pretend to be Lyssa.

The lie falls easy off her tongue when Johnny appears at the door looking for her chef. But it becomes a problem when she gets to know him better and starts to fall for him. How can she be honest about such a huge lie?

I loved Rugged. I loved the caring side of Johnny, and the accepting side of Emma. I liked the dynamic between the two of them. Even though they lie to each other for a good reason, they care and love each other deeply. I was also very intrigued about Lyssa and her Mates…

Rugged did not disappoint. It was well written, full of spice and it got me hooked from the get-go. I ate this book up in a day and was not disappointed. The only this that rubbed me the wrong was the way Emma put herself down just because she is not Lyssa.

Rugged gets from me 4,5 Stars out of 5.
